# How to Set a Password on an Application

### Before you begin (Prerequisites)

* **Permissions**: You must be an **Administrator**, **Supervisor**, **Manager**, **Support**, or **Account Rep**. See: [How to Manage Users and Permissions](/products/control-panel-overview/admin-overview/manage-roles-permissions.md).
* **Application Form**: An application must already exist. See: [How to Set Up a Membership Application](/products/control-panel-overview/applications-overview/setup-application-form.md).

### Instructions

#### Password-protect an application

1. Navigate to [**ENGAGE > Survey & Forms > Manage Applications**](https://control.peoplevine.com/survey/groups).
2. Click **Edit** next to the application.
3. Locate the **Set a Password** field.
4. Enter a password that applicants must provide before accessing the form.
5. Click **Save** or **Update**.
6. Share the password with invited prospects through a separate channel (email, invitation letter, etc.).

When a password is set, applicants who visit the application URL are prompted to enter the password before seeing any form content, including the splash page.

#### To remove password protection

1. Navigate to [**ENGAGE > Survey & Forms > Manage Applications**](https://control.peoplevine.com/survey/groups).
2. Click **Edit** next to the application.
3. Clear the **Set a Password** field (leave it blank).
4. Click **Save** or **Update**.

> **Note**: The password is a single shared password for all applicants. It is not unique per applicant. Change the password periodically if you want to limit access to specific invitation rounds.

### Best Practice

Use password protection for exclusive or invitation-only application rounds. Share the password through a separate channel (email, printed invitation) so only intended applicants can access the form.

### What Happens Next

* **On the system side**: Applicants who visit the application URL are prompted for the password before any form content is shown.
* **Next step**: Configure whether applicants can re-submit. See: [How to Prevent Previous Applicants from Re-Submitting](/products/control-panel-overview/applications-overview/prevent-application-resubmission.md).

# Agent Instructions

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.peoplevine.com/products/control-panel-overview/applications-overview/set-application-audience-permissions.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
