# How to Create a Vanity URL

### Before you begin (Prerequisites)

* **Permissions**: You must be an **Administrator**, **Supervisor**, or **Support**. See: [How to Manage Users and Permissions](/products/control-panel-overview/admin-overview/manage-roles-permissions.md).
* **Domain**: Your portal domain must be configured.
* **Destination**: Know the target page — a form, event, content page, etc.

### Instructions

#### Create a vanity URL

1. Click the **company name** in the top-left corner and navigate to [**URLs & Domains > Manage Vanity URLs**](https://control.peoplevine.com/vanity-urls).
2. Click **Create a Vanity URL**.
3. Select the **domain**.
4. Enter the **slug** — a short path starting with a forward slash. This cannot overwrite built-in URLs.
5. Toggle **This vanity URL is currently active**.
6. Select the **page type** and then the **specific page** you want the vanity URL to point to.
7. Click **Create**.
8. The vanity URL is now live at `yourdomain.com/your-slug`.

#### Manage existing vanity URLs

1. Click the **company name** in the top-left corner and navigate to [**URLs & Domains > Vanity URL > Manage Vanity URLs**](https://control.peoplevine.com/vanity-urls).
2. From here you can update the destination or deactivate a vanity URL.

### Best Practice

Keep slugs short, lowercase, and hyphen-separated. Before sharing a vanity URL externally, test it in an incognito browser to confirm it resolves correctly.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.peoplevine.com/products/control-panel-overview/admin-overview/create-vanity-url.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
